No matter how old you are, there are many great opportunities
for active citizenship!
- Learn about the candidates and issues and participate in the Kids
Voting student vote each November
- If you are old enough to register to vote...register AND vote.
- If you are going to be 18 years old by the general election (this
year, November 4, 2008) you can register and vote in the primary (this
year, May 6, 2008) even if you are still 17
- Join a political organization
- Help a campaign team
- Attend a political party meeting
- Get to know your government officials
- Start a blog about political issues
- Visit a government meeting - just to watch or sign up to speak about
an issue that matters to you. You can also follow government proceedings
on TV and online.
- Email or write a letter to local leaders about an issue you have
identified - and make sure to suggest a great solution
- Become a regular reader of the
Charlotte Observer and follow the news in other local media
- Ask your teacher to plan time each week for student discussion about
politics, government and current events
- Talk about government and politics at home - encourage your parents
to learn about what's going on, too
